Volleyball Falls in Road OAC Match to Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team dropped a four-set Ohio Athletic Conference match to the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

BW (19-2, 1-1 OAC), who snapped its season-best 11-match winning streak, fell to Mount Union (12-5, 1-1 OAC) by scores of 26-24, 24-26, 19-25 and 14-25. 

Offensively, sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) led the offensive attack with a match-high and season-best 20 kills and tallied one service aces.  Junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) had 16 kills and one service ace.   Senior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) racked up 10 kills

Freshman setter Shannon Ott (Milan/Edison) ran the offense with a match-high and a career-best 48 assists.

On the defensive side, sophomore libero Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) led four BW defenders with a career-high 24 digs.  Ott recorded a career-best 17 digs while Lortcher tallied season-high 17 digs and had a career-best tying four blocks.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) contributed 10 digs and Hawkins added 10. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 8 when they host an OAC match against Wilmington College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 1 p.m.
