Volleyball Drops OAC Match in Three Sets to Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team fell to Ohio Northern University in a three-set Ohio Athletic Conference match in the ONU Sports Center.

BW (22-6, 5-3 OAC), who remains in third place in the OAC standings, fell to second-place Ohio Northern (21-5, 7-1 OAC) by scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-11.

Sophomore utility player Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) led the offensive attack with six kills apiece.   Freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk), who is this week's OAC Volleyball Player of the Week, tallied five kills and freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) contributed four.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) set up the attackers with 20 set assists.

Freshman libero Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) anchored the defense with 10 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) and Lortcher recorded nine digs.   The nine digs for Metz marked a season-best.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, October 31 when they travel to Bexley for an OAC match against Capital University in the Capital Center at 1 p.m.

The 2015 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 3 as the top four teams will host a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m.   The semifinal matches will be held at the highest remaining sees on Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m.   The OAC Championship match will be contested at the highest remaining seed after the semifinals on Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m.
