Volleyball Splits on First Day of HCAC/OAC Cross Over

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Over hosted by Muskingum University on Performance Court.

BW (15-3) opened the tournament with a four-set loss to Hanover (Ind.) College by scores of 18-25, 25-16, 24-26 and 22-25.  The Yellow Jackets closed out day one with a three-set victory against Transylvania (Ky.) University by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-23.  

Freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) sparked the offense with 26 kills, including a match-high 13 in both matches.   Freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) recorded 18 kills, including 10 against Hanover.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with 70 assists, including match-highs of 43 against Hanover and 27 against Transylvania

Junior All-OAC defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) anchored the defense with 36 digs, including a season-best 20 against Transylvania.   Lortcher recorded 24 digs, including 16 against Hanover.  Freshman libero Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) tallied 22 kills, including 15 against Hanover.  Nuding contributed 18 digs, including 10 against Transylvania

The Yellow Jackets closes out the tournament on Saturday with matches against Defiance College and Mount St. Joseph University at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
