Passen Moves Into Third All-Time For Career Set Assists But Jackets Fall at Hiram, 3-1

BEREA, OHIO -- Senior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) moved into third place in BW history for career set assists tonight (Wednesday, September 22) but the Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team lost at Hiram College, 3-1, in Hiram. HC won by scores of 25-17, 27-25, 23-25 and 25-23.

The Yellow Jackets are now 11-6 overall on the season, while Hiram improves to 9-6.

Passen led the team with 24 set assists, giving her 3,032 assists for her career in the Brown & Gold. She moved into third place all-time in B-W volleyball history, passing Kerry Helm (2000-2003), who had 3,027 assists in her career.

In addition to Passen offensively, junior outside hitter Chelsea Nissen (Williston/Genoa) led the Jackets with 14 kills and contributed 10 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) had nine kills and a team-high five service aces, while freshman rightside player Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) and freshman middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) had eight and seven kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/North) had 11 set assists.

Defensively, sophomore libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland/Senior) led BW with 23 digs, Passen added 22 and freshman defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) had 17.
 
This Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, BW travels to Cincinnati for the HCAC/OAC Challenge hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph. B-W matches on Friday are at 4:00 versus the host, MSJ, and at 8:00 p.m. versus Hanover (Ind.). On Saturday, B-W plays at 11:00 a.m. against Transylvania (Ky.) College and at 3:00 p.m. versus Trine (Ind.) College.
