Jackets Split a Pair of Matches on the Final Day of the HCAC/ OAC Challenge at MSJ in Cincy

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland/Senior) was named to the All-Tournament team and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) had a team-high 14 kills and three blocks as the Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of matches today (Saturday, September 25, 2010) on the final day of the two-day Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference versus Ohio Athletic Conference Challenge being played at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati

The Yellow Jackets, now 13-8 overall, lost to Transylvania (Ky.) College, 3-0, and then beat Trine (Ind.) University, 3-0, to finish the Challenge with a 2-2 record.  On the first day on Friday, Sept. 24, B-W lost to host, MSJ, 3-1, and then beat Hanover College of Indiana, 3-2.


In the 25-23, 25-20 and 25-10 loss to Transylvania, Switalski and freshman middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) led the team with five kills each and Bonacci had the most blocks with two. In addition, freshman outside hitter Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) also had four kills, 14 defensive digs and a pair of service aces. Senior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) had the most set assists with 11 and added a pair of digs. In addition, sophomore Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) had seven assists, three kills and a blocks. Emmons led the squad with 16 digs.


In the 25-23, 25-11 and 25-23 win versus Trine, Switalski led the team with nine kills, Bonacci had seven along with freshman rightside player Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) and both Burns and junior Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) each had six. Nissen also led the team with 16 digs and Deleur had nine. Switalski had the most blocks with two. Passen had the most set assists with 16 to go with 11 digs and two service aces. Stitts had 15 asists and two kills. Emmons also was in double digits with 12 digs.

 

The Yellow Jackets next play on Thursday, Sept. 30 when they host NCAA Division II Notre Dame College of Ohio in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium of the Lou Higgins Center at 7:00 p.m. Next Saturday, October 2, B-W opens 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference play when it travels to Marietta, Ohio and plays rival Marietta College at 1:00 p.m.
