Women’s Track and Field Alumna Winters ’16 Named to TEAM USA

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field alumna Melanie Winters '16 (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) has been selected to the TEAM USA roster to compete in the Thorpe Cup in Dallas, Texas.

The Thorpe Cup pits the top decathlon and heptathlon athletes from the United States and Germany.   

Winters, who is making her first appearance representing TEAM USA, was a 13-time Division III All-American, 12-time Ohio Athletic Conference indoor champion, 12-time OAC outdoor champion and the holder of 13 BW indoor and outdoor records.  She also owns eight OAC Championship records and was a four-time OAC Most Valuable Performer and three-time USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Regional Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Off the track, Winters was a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American and a Dean's List student.  She was BW's 2016 Clyde Lamb and Outstanding Female Senior Athlete award winner and a 2016 NCAA Division III Woman of the Year Division III Collegiate Women Sports Awards/Honda Athlete of the Year for track and field nominee

Winters, who is coached by Alumni Athletics Hall of Famer Jeff Petersmeyer '96, begins her lifelong goal of competing for the red, white, and blue on July 9.  The two-day competition will be held inside Hunt Stadium at St. Mark's School of Texas.
