Murphy Declared OAC Track Athlete of the Week

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - For the first time this season and the second time in her track and field career, sophomore All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) has been named OAC track athlete of the week.

Murphy won the one mile this past weekend at the Ed Finnegan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invitational hosted by Case Western, breaking a 11-year-old school record. The record was last held by Kim Chinn in 2011 in a time of 4.58.79. Murphy beating that record in little under two seconds in a time of 4:57.05. On top of breaking the school record, she is recently ranked first in the OAC not only for her one-mile performance but also her 500m which she won this last meet in a time of 1:21.09.

Murphy was also recently named USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Athlete in cross country. To be eligible for this distinction, individuals must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have finished in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when it competes at the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 25-26, hosted by Mount Union inside the Peterson Fieldhouse.
