Murphy Breaks OAC Record, Women's Indoor Track and Field Completes the OAC Championships in Fourth Place

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field stand in fourth place with 79 points in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Mount Union inside Peterson Fieldhouse. Host, Mount Union wins with 228 points. 

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Sophomore All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) won the 800m in a time of 2:14.92 earning her fifth career All-OAC honors and breaking a 23-year OAC record hold in 1998 with a time of 2:15.51. 
  • Senior All-American Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) won the 1000m in a time of 3:01.04 and one-mile in a time of 5:00.72, earning her sixth All-OAC honors. 
  • Freshmen All-OAC Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) placed 10th in the 200m in a time of 26.89. 
  • Freshman Jaelyn Jaquay (Cherry Valley, N.Y. / Springfield Central) placed 15th in the 3000m with a time of 11:09.90.

Murphy and Laughner were tied for the award of most outstanding distance athletes. 

Field event highlights:

  • Junior All-OAC Abby Rodriguez (Grandview, Wash. / Prosser) won in shot put with a distance of 13.33m, earning her second All-OAC honors.
  • Sophomore Emily Randall (Mount Gilead) placed 15th with a distance of 8.98m. 
  • Senior Gloria Jurcisek (Cleveland / Normandy) placed 6th in the high jump with a height of 1.53m

On the relay side:

  • The All-OAC 4x200 relay squad of freshmen All-OAC Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman), freshmen All-OAC Sam Varga (Louisville / Lake Center Christian), freshmen All-OAC Kenni Voytek (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) and sophomore All-OAC Lexie Gozdan (Canton / Massillon Perry) placed third in a time of 1:47.81, all adding All-OAC to their careers. 
  • The All-OAC 4x400 relay team of Murphy, Collier, Varga and freshmen All-OAC Julia Childers (Kempton, Ind. / Tri-Central) placed third in a time of 4:13.12, all adding All-OAC to their careers.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, March 5th when the team splits to attend two different meets. Polar Bear Qualifier hosted by Ohio Northern and Tufts National Qualifying Meet hosted by Tufts University.
