All-American Winters Sets School Record to Lead No. 5 Women's Track and Field to First Place Finish at Mid-January Meet

BEREA, Ohio -- Senior two-time indoor All-American Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) set one school record and won three events to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field teams to a first place finish at the home opening Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

The seven-team meet consisted of four NCAA Division III schools, three NCAA Division II schools and one junior college.

The fifth nationally ranked BW women's team was first of four teams with 175 points 

Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) won the high jump in a school-record leap of 5 feet and 8.5 inches, the 200-meter in a time of 25.68 seconds and the 55-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.25 seconds.  Winters' time in the 200-meter dash is the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season and her mark in the high jump is tied for second best.

Senior indoor All-American Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) and sophomore distance runner Maeve Christie (Lakewood) each were two event winners.  Gallavan won the shot put with a mark of 44-04.25 and the weight throw with a season-best mark of 57'6.25".  Gallavan now has the third best mark in the weight throw in Division III. Christie won the in the 500-meter run and 1000-meter in career-best times of 1:25.44 and 3:25.68, respectively.

In addition, sophomore distance runner Bailee D'Amore (McDonald) was third in the 500-meter and 1,000-meter run in career-best times of 1:32.27 and 3:39.07, respectively. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Maggey Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph's Academy) was second in the weight throw with a mark of 52'1.25".  Junior thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) was third in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 48'11.75".  Senior sprinter Kelsey Nemeth (Medina) was third in the 200-meter dash in a career-best time of 27.25.Freshman pole vaulter Abby Weagraff (Cochranton, Pa. /Meadville) was third with a career-best vault of 9'0.25". Senior jumper Abby Snow (Massillon/Jackson) was third in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 33'10.

In relay action, the 4x200-meter team of  Kelsey Nemeth, freshman Grace Nemeth (Medina), sophomore Carlynn Arthur (Danville) and junior Lyndsey Armstrong (Ashtabula/Geneva) finished second with a season-best time 1:50.19.  The 4x400-meter team of was xx in a time of Christie, Arthur, D'Amore and junior sprinter Jasmine Moore (Cleveland Heights) took first in a time of 4:28.04

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 6 when it travels Granville to compete in the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse at 12 p.m. 

In addition on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7, the Yellow Jacket multi-event athletes will be competing in the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships also hosted by Denison in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
