Women’s Tennis Wins First Match of the Season, Beats NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene in Spring Opener

MEDINA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team won its first match of the 2022-23 season as it defeated NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene University in its spring opener by a final score of 5-4 at the Paramount Tennis Club.

BW (1-3) won all three doubles matches and two of six doubles matches.  Mount Vernon Nazarene fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. 

Doubles Results

  • Junior All-OAC performer Gabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) & junior Academic All-OAC performer Kierstyn Yates (Grafton/Midview) defeated Audrey Cochran & Emily Allison at first singles by a score of 8-6
  • Sophomore Emma Trost (Norwalk) & freshman Gillian Brown (Brunswick) defeated Kiersten Winey & Emma Harville at second singles by a score of 8-5
  • Junior Academic All-OAC performer Juliet Penrod (Macedonia/Nordonia) & sophomore Mattie Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) won by forfeit at third doubles

Singles Results

  • Heideman defeated Cochran at first singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2
  • Yates fell to Allison at second singles by identical scores of 7-5
  • Trost fell Winey at third singles by scores of 7-6 and 7-5
  • Brown fell Harville at fourth singles by scores of 6-4, 1-6 and 7-10
  • Penrod fell to Megan Vollrath at fifth singles by forfeit
  • Hicks won by forfeit at sixth singles

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, February 26 when it travels to nearby Oberlin for a non-conference match against Oberlin College in the Heisman Field House inside the Philips Physical Education Center at 1 p.m.
