Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team knocked off Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Marietta College on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts by a final score of 7-2.

With the victory, BW moved to 4-10, 3-2 OAC and Marietta fell to 2-12, 0-6 OAC.

Doubles (BW, 3-0)

  • In the No. 1 spot, sophomore All-OAC performer Gabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) and sophomore Kierstyn Yates () took down Anne Thompson and Madilyn McKitrick by a score of 8-1.
  • At the No. 2 position, junior Academic All-OAC Lizzy Cole (Shaker Heights) and freshman Hanna LeMaster (Avon) knocked off Abigial Hartshorn and Parkar Mauk by a score of 8-1.
  • In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Juliet Penrod (Macedonia/Nordonia) and freshman Mattie Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.)  won by a forfeit due to the Pioneers not having enough players.

Singles (BW, 9-0)

  • At the No. 1 spot, freshman Emma Trost (Norwalk) fell to Thompson by scores of 6-0, 6-4.
  • Hicks battled at the no. 2 spot and picked up a sweep over Hartshorn by scores of 6-3, 6-2.
  • In the No. 3 position, senior Kami DiRocco (Akron/Copley) picked up a victory over McKitrick by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
  • Penrod fell at the No. 4 spot to Mauk by scores of 6-0, 6-4.
  • LeMaster picked up the win at No. 5 due to forfeit.
  • Cole picked up the win at No. 6 due to forfeit.

The Yellow Jackets return to the courts on Wednesday, April 27 when they travel to University Heights to take on crosstown rival John Carroll University at the Short Family Tennis Center with the action beginning at 3:30.
