Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls to Case Western Reserve in Season Finale

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season portion of its schedule as it dropped a non-conference dual meet to crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University by a final score of 193-77 in the Veale Natatorium.

BW (6-5) was led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Madeleine Pierce (Perry) and sophomore All-OAC performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as the pair each won on event.

Pierce won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 28.91 seconds and took third in the 100-yadr freestyle in a season-best time of 58.09. Ratino won the  500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:22.11, took third in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:13.28, fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 30.41

In addition, senior Academic All-OAC performer Ellie Clymer (Independence) was the runner-up in the 1-meter and six-dive event with a total of 195.75 points, third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:14.24 and was fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 34.51. Senior Academic All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.05.  Senior freestyle Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.92. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.02.  Junior diver Meg Reynold (Sheffield Village/Grafton) finished fifth in the 1-meter and six-dive event with a career-best 120.80 points.  Sophomore Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.44 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:41.31.  Freshman stroker Aubrey Syron (Dayton/Archbishop Alter) and freshman stroker Julia Newbould (Strongsville) went fourth and fifth in the 50-yard butterfly in career-best times of 28.68 and 29.11.

BW hosts the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday-Saturday, February 13-15 at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals to be held each night at 6 p.m.  Fans can follow all of the action live at http://homepages.bw.edu/~stats/swim/oac/.
