Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Ohio Wesleyan in Season Opener

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2017-18 season as it dropped a non-conference dual meet to Ohio Wesleyan University in the BW Natatorium.

BW (0-1) lost to the Battling Bishops (1-0) by a final score of 150-87                                                                                                                                     

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) as each won one event and was the runner-up in another.  Miller won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:52.14 and was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:06.04.  Thorson won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:37.06 and took second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:05.53. 

In addition, senior Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle in a times of 27.01 seconds and 59.97 seconds.  Freshman stroker Marisa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) took second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.38.  Sophomore diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) was the runner-up in the six-dive 1-meter event with 152.05 points. Sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:13.98.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay unit of freshman stroker Marisa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township), Clymer, Nockengost and freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) took second in a time of 1:56.87. The 200-yard freestyle team of Kortis, Miller, Thorson and junior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) took second in a time of 1:46.96.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 21 when it opens up Ohio Athletic Conference action when it hosts Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
