Women Swimmers and Divers Knocked Off by Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams were each defeated by NCAA Division perennial power Kenyon College in a non-conference dual in the Steen Aquatic Center.

The Yellow Jacket women (5-4) dropped a 125-70 decision.

The women's squad was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) and sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) each had a pair of runner-up finishes.

Fortune, who suffered her first defeat in the diving events, finished second in the 1-meter dive with 202.65 points and second in the 3-meter event with a season-best 199.57 points.   Miller was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:07.33 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:50.67

In addition, senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) was second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.04 and third in the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:24.72.   Senior freestyler Contessa Elliott (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was second in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 2:38.69 and third in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 2:22.82 Sophomore freestyler Lena Kortis(Canton/Massillon Perry) was second in the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 1:00.05 and third in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 27.07 seconds.   Freshman stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South) was second in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 2:24.72 and third in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:25.50

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of Ashbaugh, sophomore freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus), Kortis and Miller took second in a time of 2:00.01.  The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman freestyler Mackenzie Biastre (Eden, N.Y.), sophomore freestyler Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview), Kortis and freshman freestyler Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon) touched the wall in second place in a season-best time of 1:53.19.

BW returns to action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 4, 5 and 6 when it travels to Fredonia, New York to compete in the Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Fredonia State University.
