Women's Swimming Defeats Bethany and NCAA Division II Ursuline

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams won a pair of non-conference dual meets as it defeated both Bethany (W. Va.) College and NCAA Division II Ursuline College in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (3-1) defeated Bethany by a score of 180-47 and edged out Ursuline by a margin of 176-61.

The Yellow Jackets were led by a trio of three win performers in sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), freshman stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South) and freshman freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill. / Hinsdale South).

Miller won the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:02.83 and the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:38.99 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 11:35.93.  Onchuck posted victories in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.55 seconds, the 100-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 1:10.62 and the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 2:11.54.  Krupp brought home wins in the 50-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 29.76, the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:05.32 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:16.92.

Also winning a pair of events were senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon), senior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone), sophomore freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) and sophomore freestyler Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview).

Ashbaugh won the 50-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 28.11 and the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.98.  Fortune remained undefeated in the 1-meter diving events as she won both events with scores of 166.95 and 217.80, respectively.  Severns notched wins in the 50-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 34.97 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 1:18.28.   Gladish came up victorious in the 50-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 31.86 and the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:08.59.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of Krupp, Severns, Ashbaugh and Onchuck won in a season-best time of 2:01.52.  The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Severns, freshman freestyler Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon), Gladish and Miller touched the wall in a winning time of season-best time 1:51.56.

BW returns to action on Saturday, November 7 when it travels to Hiram for a tri-meet against Hiram College and The College of Wooster in the Alumni Memorial Pool at 1 p.m.
