Yellow Jacket Women Swimmers Fall at NCAA Division II Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams were defeated by NCAA Division II Tiffin University by a final score of 68-43 in a non-conference dual meet in the Tiffin Natatorium.

Senior All-OAC performer Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth-Canton), junior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) and junior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) all won individual titles to lead BW (5-4).

Eyster won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:00.31 and was second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 11:50.81.   Fortune, who is competing in her first meet of the season after studying abroad in the fall, won the 3-meter diving event with 197 points and was second in the 1-meter with 186.30 points. Ashbaugh won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:20.11 and was third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.84.

In addition to the trio of AshbaughEyster and Fortune, freshman Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich. /Pioneer) finished second in two events while seniors Emily Payne (Ligonier, Pa. /Ligonier Valley) and senior Olivia Vocke (Napoleon) and freshman Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview) each had a runner-up finish.

 was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.56 and the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:01.64.   Payne had a second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 28.65, Vocke was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.74 and Gladish took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.33.

Also the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Contessa Elliott (Ypsilanti, Mich.), PayneVocke and Gladish finished second in a season-best time of 2:10.49
 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 17 when they travel to Ada for an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 1 p.m.   The next home meet is on Saturday, January 24 when the team hosts an OAC dual meet  against cross-town rival John Carroll University in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
