Women’s Soccer Knocks Off Muskingum on Seniors' Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Muskingum University by a final score of 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' Day game on the Tressel Field in the George Finnie Stadium. 

Before the opening kickoff, BW (7-8, 2-3 OAC) recognized the team's seven seniors, All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defender Amanda Donahue (Morrow/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy), All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Maddie Farrell (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), Academic All-OAC midfielder Olivia Kane (Hilliard/Darby), Academic All-OAC midfielder Bella Reigle (Niles/McKinley), Academic All-OAC forward Michelina Rush (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), Academic All-OAC defender Aundrea Scattino (Girard/Niles McKinley) and Academic All-OAC defender Anna Wenzinger (Columbus/Bishop Watterson).

As the game got underway, the Yellow Jackets put a lot of pressure on the Muskingum (2-13, 0-5 OAC) defense. The BW offense got off 22 shots to the Fighting Muskies two shots. It wasn't until the 31 minute mark that the Yellow Jackets got on the board, when sophomore forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) slipped one past the keeper. The BW offense fired off shots throughout the half but could only manage the one goal. 

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets kept on the pressure. Again significantly outshooting Muskingum by a mark of 15-2. At the 52 minute mark, Rice rifled one into the top on the net to extend the BW lead to 2-0. Then at the 63 minute mark, junior Academic All-OAC midfielder Brandi Filippi (Pickerington/North) scored off a rebound to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead. At the 64 minute mark, the Fighting Muskies got a free kick and freshman midfielder Morgan Meisel was able to capitalize with a goal just past the keeper's reach. Both teams continued to battle but no other goals were scored as BW took home a 3-1 victory. 

In the net for the Yellow Jackets was junior goalkeeper Maddie Hofmann (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) who made two saves on the three shots she faced.

BW returns to action on Wednesday, October 20 when it hosts crosstown rival John Carroll University in an OAC game on the Tressel Field in the George Finnie Stadium at  7:00 p.m.
