Women’s Soccer Overpowers Quakers in OAC Quarterfinal Game

BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Wilmington College in the  Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals, 4-1, Monday evening on Tressel Field inside of  The George Finnie Stadium.

In the second minute junior forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) sent an indirect kick across the box, and junior defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) headed the ball into the back of the net. 11 minutes later Schutz scored one of her own, when she found the top left corner from 30 yards out to give the Yellow Jackets (11-5-5) a 2-0 lead.

BW added to its lead when freshman defender Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) netted her first goal of her career in the 36th minute to give BW a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half the Yellow Jackets added another when senior forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) scored her third goal of the year at the 60:53 mark. Schutz was credited with her second assist of the game and her team-high .

Wilmington (10-8-1) scored the final final goal of the game in the 74th minute to make the score 4-1.

Senior All-OAC and All-OAC Academic goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) improved to 11-5-5 on the year.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets advance to the OAC semifinals on Wednesday, November 4 when they will travel to Bexley to face OAC regular season champion and top-seeded Capital University in Bernlohr Stadium at 7 p.m.
