No. 5 Wrestling Wins 35th John Summa Invitational on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, OHIO – The No. 5 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won the 35th John Summa Invitational on Seniors' Day inside the Lou Higgins Fieldhouse.

BW was the champion of six teams with 377 points.  The Yellow Jackets had five champions highlighted by senior All-American 157-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic as he became the school's all-time wins leader with 130.

Prior to the championship round, the Yellow Jackets recognized its eight senior wrestlers in Bleich, Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Aidan Cardaman (Geneva), Quinton Kelley (Akron/Archbishop Hoban), All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Kevin Kelly (North Olmsted), All-American Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown), Jarod Miller (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) and Dominic Shelley (Mentor).

Junior and No. 2 nationally-ranked 125-pounder Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) -Champion

  • Won by pinfall in 1:27 over Chase Wolfingbarger of Ohio Wesleyan in the first round
  • Won a 12-4 major decision over Blaess of BW in the second round
  • Won a 4-1 decision over No. 10 nationally-ranked Matt Caccamise of Brockport (N.Y.) in the third round

Sophomore and No. 4 nationally-ranked 149-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) – Champion

  • Won a 16-1 technical fall over Bailey Gibson of Ohio Northern in the first round
  • Won a 16-0 technical fall over Kyle Emsley of Ohio Wesleyan in the second round
  • Won by pinfall in 52 seconds over Bryce Whittman of Ohio Wesleyan in the third round

No. 13 nationally-ranked 157-pounder Bleich - Champion

  • Won a 7-3 decision over Teagan Hendricks of Ohio Northern in the first round
  • Won a 5-1 decision over Max Yahre of Brockport (N.Y.) in the second round
  • Won a 10-6 decision over West of BW in the third round
  • Won a 12-5 decision over Shaun Wagner of Ohio Northern in the fourth round 

165-pounder Leightner - Champion

  • Won by pinfall in 4:46 over Michael Fronczak of Brockport (N.Y.) in the first round
  • Won by pinfall in 2:14 over Jonah Poueriet of Brockport (N.Y.) in the second round
  • Won a 1-0 decision over Kelly of BW in the third round
