No. 5 Wrestling Places Sixth at Spartan Mat Classic

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The No. 5 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling finished sixth at the annual Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester Indiana inside the Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

BW finished sixth of 19 teams with 73 points.  No. 3 nationally-ranked Wabash (Ind.) College was the champion with 139 points.

No. 2 nationally-ranked Junior 125-pounder Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) – Champion

  • Won by an 18-3 technical fall over Ethan Bednarczyk (Wabash) in the first round
  • Won by forfeit in second round
  • Won by pinfall in 1:06 over Jaden Bird (Wabash) in the third round
  • Won by a 12-4 major decision over Trevor Marsman (Cornerstone) in fourth round
  • Won by a 6-4 decision over Carlos Champagne (Wabash) in championship 

Sophomore 125-pounder David Panda (Columbia, Md./Atholton) – Fourth Place

  • Won a 5-3 decision over Nathan Orum (Indiana Tech) in second round
  • Won in 2:34 over Alex Cantu (Muskegon) in third round
  • Lost a 6-4 decision to Carlos Champagne (Wabash) in fourth round
  • Lost a 13-6 decision to Trevor Marsman (Cornerstone) in fifth round

Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference 184-pounder Aidan Cardaman (Geneva) – Fifth Place

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, January 18 when they host an OAC match against Wilmington College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.
