Wrestling Climbs to Fourth in NWCA National Rankings, Decatur Tops 125 Weight Class

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team moved up one spot to number four in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Top-25 poll while junior 125-pounder Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) is the top ranked wrestler in his weight class.

BW (15-3, 7-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) was ranked fourth in the previous two polls climbed into fourth place after claiming its second straight OAC Championship and its sixth in the lats seven seasons.

Decatur is joined in the individual rankings by sophomore 149-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley), senior All-American 157-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic), junior All-OAC 184 pounder Luke Salmon (Sandusky/Perkins) and junior 197-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe).

Decatur, who is in first season in Berea, is 27-1 on the season with eight technical falls, five major decisions and three pins. 

Petrella enters the latest poll ranked fourth with a record of 30-2.  He has tallied 11 pins, three technical falls and two major decisions.

Bleich, who is the school's all-time wins leader with 131 victories, is ranked 15th with a record of 26-6.  He has notched four major decisions, two technical falls and one pin.

Salmon comes into this week's poll as the seventh ranked wrestler with a record of 21-2.  He has recorded eight pins and five technical falls.

Byrne is ranked third with a record of 22-3.  He leads the team with a career-best 14 pins along with three major decisions.

The Yellow Jackets return to the mats on Friday and Saturday, February 25 and 26 when they travel to Adrian, Michigan to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Adrian College in the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center. 

The NCAA Division III Championships will be contested on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
