No. 5 Wrestling Wins Second Straight OAC Championship

TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 5 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won its second consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Championship as it defeated Heidelberg University by a final score of 38-6 in the Seiberling Gymnasium.

BW (15-2, 7-0 OAC), who won its sixth title in the last seven years, claimed a school-record four straight conference crowns from 2015 to 2019 and followed it up with back-to-back titles the last two seasons.

  • Junior and No. 2 nationally-ranked 125-pounder Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) won by injury at 4:49 over Harrison Hadley
  • Sophomore 133-pounder Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) won a 14-3 major decision over Nathan Demangeont 
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 141-pounder Tanner McHugh (New Ringgold, Pa./Tamaqua) won a 13-4 major decision over Kyle Fanson
  • Sophomore and No. 4 nationally-rankled 149-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) won by pinfall in 2:07 over Dwight Parker
  • Senior All-American and No. 13 nationally-ranked Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic), who is this week's OAC Wrestler of the Week, won a 10-6 decision over Jacob Horsch
  • Senior All-American 165-pounder Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown) won by pinfall in 4:00 over Montavious Yearby
  • Freshman 174-pounder Donovan Palmer (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West) lost an extra session 4-2 decision to TJ Rhamy
  • Junior All-OAC and No. 7 nationally-ranked 184-pounder Luke Salmon (Sandusky/Perkins) won by pinfall in 1:00 over Adam Medeiros
  • Senior Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Aidan Cardaman (Geneva) won a 6-4 decision over Da'Veon Parker
  • Senior 285-pounder Jarod Miller (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) lost a 10-9 decision to Jace Grossman 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 11 when they travel to West Liberty, West Virginia for its final dual match of the season against NCAA Division II nationally-ranked West Liberty University inside the Academic, Sports & Recreation Complex at 7 p.m.  BW closes out the regular season on Sunday, February 13 when it travels to University Heights to compete in the John Carroll University Open at 10 a.m.

The NCAA Division III Central Region Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 25 and 26 in the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center on the campus of Adrian (Mich.) College.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be contested on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
