Petrella Named D3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week

MANHEIM, Pa. – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore 149-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) has been named the D3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career.

Petrella earns the accolade after claiming the 149-pund title and helped the No. 11 nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets claim the team title at the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational last Saturday. In the quarterfinals, Petrella defeated No. 1 seed and No. 3-nationally ranked Alex Villar of North Central 6-2. In the semifinals, he won by pinfall over TJ Driessens of Wabash (Ind.) College. In the finals, Petrella came away with a 5-3 decision over Charlie Stuhl of Augsburg (Minn.) University.

This season, Petrella leads the team with 16 victories compared to one loss.  He has eight pins and one technical fall.

In just two seasons, Petrella has amassed 18 wins with just two losses.  He has nine pins in those 18 victories with one technical fall and one major decision.

BW returns to the mats on Saturday, December 18th when it travels to Sandusky, Ohio to compete in the Kalahari Duels hosted by Heidelberg University. The Yellow Jackets will take on Defiance College, Trine (Ind.) University, Adrian (Mich.) College and No. 11 nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh with the action beginning at 10:00 a.m. Also on December 18th, the Yellow Jackets travel to Olivet, Michigan for a pair of matches against Olivet (Mich.) College at 4:00 p.m. and NCAA Division I Michigan State University at 5:30 p.m.
