AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin wallace University Wrestling Head Coach Jamie Gibbs has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year while seven wrestling student-athletes land on the 2019 All-OAC team.
Gibbs earns his fourth-straight Coach of the Year award after leading the Yellow Jackets to a school-record fourth straight OAC Championship along with a record of 14-2 record and a 5-1 OAC mark.
Senior two-time All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) and sophomore 149-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) were selected to the first team. Junior 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/Seminary), sophomore 141-pounder Tanner McHugh (New Ringgold, Pa./Tamaqua), senior 157-pounder Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), senior 184-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison), and senior 285-pounder James Ritchie (Carlisle) were all slated to the second team.
Arroyo earns his fourth-straight first team accolade after two OAC Wrestler of the Week honors and claiming his 100th career match on December 8, 2018 against Messiah (Pa.) College, becoming the seventh BW wrestler to ever win 100 matches. For his career, Arroyo has garnered seven Wrestler of the Week honors, an All-Central Regional selection, OAC John Summa Wrestler of the Year in 2017-18 and was D3wrestling.com All-Freshman first team selection.
Bleich earns his second All-OAC honor after being named to the second team in his freshman campaign. Bleich won the 149-pound title at the BW Invitational and was fourth on the team with 27 victories with two pins and 11 major decisions. For his career he has 59 victories with seven pins and 14 major decisions, as well as an All-Central Region selection and was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
Earning his second All-OAC selection is Ginnetti, who finished the season with 21 victories, which included 12 pins, four technical falls, one major decision and a 133-pound title at the BW Invitational. Ginneti has a Wrestler of the Week accolade, including a NCAA Division lll National Qualifier, an Academic All-OAC selection and landed on the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team. Ginnetti ranks 21st on BW's All-Time Wins Leaderboard with a career record of 81-28, with 42 pins, 9 technical falls, and six major decisions.
McHugh garners his first All-OAC honor after a 28-8 sophomore season and claimed titles at the BW Invitational, Trine Invitational, and the Long Island Open. In his career, McHugh has a career record of 42-19 with three pins and six major decisions.
Burke receives his third All-OAC accolade after an 18-6 senior season which included six pins, seven technical falls, three major decisions and a title at the BW Invitational. Burke has a career mark of 68-35 with 30 pins, 11 technical falls, and four major decisions. He has been named OAC Wrestler of the Week twice and was a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American as a freshman. Burke ranks 31st on BW's All-Time Career Wins Leaderboard.
Garnering his second All-OAC selection is Ransom, after a first-place finish at the BW Invitational and a 20-6 record in his senior season which included three pins and a career-tying nine major decisions. In his career he has been an All-Central Region Selection, a NCAA Division lll qualifier and has compiled a 67-25 record, good enough to tie for 32nd on BW's All-Time Career Wins Leaderboard. Ransom has eight pins, two technical falls, and 18 major decisions for his career.
Rounding out the All-OAC selections is Ritchie, who earned his first honor after going 25-11 with 11 pins, three technical falls, six major decisions and a title at the BW Invitational. Ritchie is a two-time Academic All-OAC, a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American and has compiled a 56-34 career mark with 24 pins, three technical falls and six major decisions.
The Yellow Jackets finished the season as OAC champs for the fourth year in a row with an overall record of 14-2 and an OAC mark of 5-1.
