No. 8 Wrestling Wins Two Matches at Gator Boots Duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and eighth-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won two of three matches at the annual Gator Boots Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College at McGavock High School. 

BW (11-1) opened the duals with a 34-7 victory over Manchester (Ind.) University.  The Yellow Jackets then dropped its first match of the season as it fell to fourth-nationally ranked Loras (Iowa) College by a final score of 18-13.  BW closed out the duals with a 19-18 victory against Millikin (Ill.) University.

Against Manchester, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green), who is fifth in the national rankings, earned an 11-3 major decision.   Sophomore 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/Seminary) won by pinfall in 3:26. Freshman 157-pounder Kevin Kelly (North Olmsted) picked up a 3-0 decision.   Junior All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee), who is ranked second nationally, won by pinfall in 5:44.  Senior 174-pounder Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) earned a 12-9 decision victory.   Junior All-OAC 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) won by pinfall in 1:34. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) picked up a 3-1 decision.  Senior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green) closed out the match with a 6-2 decision. 

In the match with Loras, Doyle started things off with a 21-3 technical fall in 4:47 at 125 pounds. Ginnetti earned a 12-6 decision at 133 pounds.  Rathburn picked up a 10-6 decision victory at 174 pounds.  Lehman won by a 6-5 decision at 184 pounds.

Against Millikin, Doyle won his third match of the day as he earned an 8-0 major decision victory at 125-pounds.   Ginnetti earned his third victory on the day as he won his second match by pinfall in 1:34. Arroyo picked up his second win of the day as he earned the 6-4 decision victory at 165-pounds. Rathburn got the sweep on the day as he posted a 7-4 decision win at 174-pounds.  Lehman went three-for-three on the day as he won a 10-5 decision at 184-pounds.    

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday and Friday, January 4 and 5 when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals inside the Allen Count War Memorial Coliseum.  A schedule of matches has not been released at this time.
