No. 19 Wrestling Posts 2-2 Record at Mount Union Duals

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The 19th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished with a record of 2-2 at the University of Mount Union Duals inside the in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

BW (3-2) fell to No. 13-nationally ranked Messiah (Pa.) College by a final score of 20-15 in its first match.  The Yellow Jackets defeated Alma (Mich.) College by a score of 32-6 in their second match.  In the third match of the day, BW knocked off Greensboro (N.C.) College by a score of 38-7.  The Yellow Jackets fell to No. 11-nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) in their final match by a final score of 20-16.

Against Messiah, freshman Charlie Nash (Norwalk) pinned his opponent to win the 133-pound match.  Seniors Josh Decatur (Akron /Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Graham Montague (Independence) and sophomore Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) each won by decision.  Decatur won his match at 149-pounds by a score of 11-10.  Montague picked up the win at 174-pounds by a count of 6-3 and Arroyo captured the 165-pound match in sudden death by a score of 13-11. 

In the match with Alma, Nash and Arroyo as each won by pinfall.   Nash earned his second straight victory by pinfall as he won the 133-pound match in three minutes and Arroyo got the pin at 165-pounds in just over one minute.  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC performer Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and freshman Aaron Kelly (Rocky River) each won by major decision Maclellan took the match at 197-pounds by a score of 10-1 and Kelly took 141-pounds by a score of 14-1.  Decatur earned a 10-6 decision at 141-pounds.  Sophomore Benjamin Hooff (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) picked up a 6-4 decision at 149-pounds.  Sophomore Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) earned a 5-3 decision at 184-pounds.  Junior Gabe Mahaney (Green) won by a 3-1 decision at 285-pounds.

Against Greensboro, junior Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) won by pinfall in a time of 2:56 at 125-pound.  Nash earned his third straight victory by pinfall at 133-pounds in a time of 1:53. Kelly took 141-pounds by a 13-6 decision.  Senior Zack Taylor (Brunswick) took 149-pounds by a 7-1 decision. Freshman Liam Heslin (Greenwood Lake, N.Y./Chester Academy) won by forfeit at 157-pounds.  Freshman Adam Green (Austintown/Austintown Fitch) earned the victory at 165-pounds by pinfall in a time of 2:08.  Junior Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) picked up a 9-5 decision at 174-pounds.    Freshman Eddie Sternard (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) earned a technical fall victory by a score of 15-0 at 285-pounds.

In the match with Stevens, Arroyo picked up his second pin of the day as he won his match at 165-pounds in a time of 5:39.  Montague scored a major decision victory at 174-pounds by a count of 11-3.  Lehman kept the winning streak going as he posted a 5-2 decision at 174-pounds.  Mahaney closed out the scoring as he posted an 8-2 decision at 285-pounds. 

BW is back in action on Tuesday, November 29 when it will host a non-conference dual match against NAIA Lourdes University in the home opener in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.
