No. 14 BW Wrestlers Win Sixth Straight Against Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The 14th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won its third straight overall match and sixth straight match against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University with a 45-3 victory in the Horsburgh Gymnasium. It was the first of five dual meets this week for the Yellow Jackets.

BW (4-2) won nine of 10 matches and Case Western Reserve (4-2) only won the 141-pound weight class.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pounder David Shapiro (Beachwood) led the Yellow Jackets as he pinned Nick Tommas in 38 seconds.

Freshman 133-pounder Markus Cruz (Lorain/Clearview), junior 149-pounder Joey Schmidt (Hinckley/Brunswick) and sophomore 197-pounder Andrew Shackleford (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) all won by major decision.  Cruz defeated Travis Alexander, 13-4, Schmidt beat Connor Gordon, 8-0, and Shackelford handled Cito Balsells, 16-2

Junior 174-pounder Garret Chase (Erie, Pa/Cathedral Prep) defeated Nick Lees with a 6-1 decision. 

Closing out the victory and winning by forfeit were junior All-American 125-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron/Coventry), freshman 157-pounder Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley), junior 184-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) and freshman 285-pounder Nick Nader (Gahanna/ Lincoln).

BW is back in action on Saturday, November 22 when it will travel to Alliance and Ashland to compete in the Mount Union Duals and the Ashland University Simonson Invitational.   The Mount Union Duals begin at 11 a.m. in the in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex and the Simonson Invitational is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
