BW Grapplers Finish Fourth at RIT (NY) Tourney

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished fourth of eleven teams today at the 47th Annual University of Rochester (N.Y.) Invitational Tournament in the Gordon Field House. This is the fourth tournament of the winter for the Yellow Jacket grapplers.

BW claimed two individual titles and had one runner-up as it scored 108 points to finish in fourth place  Wesleyan, Conn. was the tournament team champion with 152 points.  John Carroll followed in second with 138 points and SUNY-Oswego, N.Y. was third with 122.

The Yellow Jackets had individual champions in freshmen 125-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron / Coventry) and freshman 285-pounder Joe Belford (Berea /St. Edward )   Gunter, who was named the Tony Wallace Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler Award and won his second  tournament of the season, pinned Michael Buckiso of John Carroll in the finals at the 1:37 mark.  Belford won his first collegiate title as he defeated Kyle Sheridan of SUNY-Oswego by a 3-1 decision. Freshman Lane Louive (Massillon / Washington) was the runner-up at the 184-weight class as he fell to Jefferson Ajayi of Wesleyan Conn. by a 6-3 decision.

In addition, freshmen 133-pounder Zach Walker (Fairlawn /Copley) finished fourth, 174-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) placed fifth and 165-pounder David Shapiro (Beachwood) finished fifth.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December 8 when they travel cross-town to Cleveland for a dual match against cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University at 1:00 p.m.
