Brockport State (N.Y.) Wins the 26th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament

BEREA, OHIO --  The 25th-ranked Brockport State (N.Y.) wrestling team won the team title today (Saturday, February 4, 2012) at the 26th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.  The tournament featured two NCAA Division II and three of seven teams ranked in the top 30 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) national poll.

Brockport State, who had three individual champions, finished first of nine teams with 204 points.  Ohio Northern took home second with 160.5 points, NCAA Division II Lake Erie was third with 138.5 points, Wabash (Ind.) took fourth with 95 points, Rochester Institute of Technology finished in fifth with 86.5, NCAA Division III Indianapolis captured sixth with 68 points, Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) was seventh with 51, Thiel (Pa.) took eighth with 42 points and B-W finished  in ninth place with 20 points.

At 125-pounds, Asher Kramer of Brockport State's 2 team took home the title by defeating teammate of Brockport State Tyler Marlow by a 5-3 decision.  

At the 133-pound weight class, Ryan Reed of Brockport State's 3 team won by decision over Lake Erie's Thomas McVicker, who recorded the fastest pin of the tournament in 19 seconds, by a score of 7-3. 

At 141-pounds, Eliah Golding of Brockport State pinned Kevin Brunner of Lake Erie in 1:43.

At the 149-pound weight class, Robert Troy of Brockport State won by decision over Lake Erie's Mitchell Porter by a final score of 10-8.

At 157-pounds,  Nathan Bell of Lake Erie won by major decision against Austin Chamberlain of Indianapolis by a score of 12-1.

At the 165-pound weight class, David Dibenedetto of Washington & Jefferson scored a victory by decision over William Painter of Ohio Northern, 3-2.

At 174-pounds, Kyle Kwiat, of Ohio Northern, the Most Valuable Wrestler of the Tournament, won by technical fall over Dustin Parrish of Indianapolis  by a score of 16-1 in six minutes.

At the 184-pound weight class, Josh Linden of Lake Erie won by decision over Wheeler Brunschmid of Brockport State by a final score of 11-8.

At 197-pounds, Michael Pawlitz pinned Ian Kelton of Wabash's 2 team in 20 seconds.

At the 285-pound weight class, John Wilkinson of Brockport State won by major decision over Nick Stewart of Rochester Institute of Technology by a score of 10-2.
