Hildreth Resets School Record, Women’s Lacrosse Drops to Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University Women's Lacrosse fell to Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 13-9 inside Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field. 

BW (1-7, 1-7 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Reserve) and freshman attacker Tara Martin (Brunswick) who each scored two goals. 

Otterbein (6-3, 6-3 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Julia Karas who scored four goals and added two assists. Junior midfielder Macey Buchanan and sophomore midfielder Emily Willms each added three goals. Senior midfielder Cameron Finnegan added two goals. 

Both offenses started out the game hit. But it was the Yellow Jackets getting on the board first with a quick run. Freshman attacker Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) and Martin both hit the back of the cage to get the attack going. The Cardinals came back and responded with a 2-0 run of their own which saw Wilms score both goals. The back-and-forth action continued with another BW 2-0 run, which was capped off by Martin when she rifled one into the back of the cage. The Cardinals also responded, going on an 6-0. Karas scored three goals during the run which put the Cardinals up 8-4. 

The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the second half when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) hit the back of the net. Otterbein responded with a 2-0 run that was capped off by Karas. BW got the offense going with when Ray ripped one into the back of the net. The Cardinals came back with another 2-0 run when Finnegan scored a goal with 22:23 remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets got their own 2-0 run which saw sophomore midfielder Sophia Leuma (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) and junior midfielder Sid Chamberlain (Wooster) score goals. The attacks continued this time with Otterbein scoring when Buchanan hit the back of the cage with 10:13 remaining in the game. BW ended the scoring in the game when freshman attacker Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake) hit the back of the net with 7:14 remaining in the game. 

In net, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) reset her own school record with 19 saves on the 36 total shots she faced.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Wednesday March 31 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Mount Union for an OAC matchup inside Mount Union Stadium.
