WOOSTER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-14 overtime thriller to the College of Wooster in the non-conference finale inside John C. Papp Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron Revere) and senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) both registered a game-high tying six points for BW (3-4). Ray tied career highs of five goals and one assist for a career-high six points while Albrechta tallied three goals and three assists for her six points. Junior All-OAC attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) added four goals of her own. Junior midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) netted a pair of scores.

In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) made a game-high 15 saves in the loss.

Wooster remained perfect (7-0) on the season, led by senior midfielder Emma Lawrence's performance of three goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Boersma and senior midfielder Megan Healy scored three goals apiece, including Boersma's golden goal. Senior attack Jordan Stone and sophomore attack Alexa Mellis each chipped in a pair of goals.

After almost five scoreless minutes passed to start the game, Wooster finally opened up the scoring by rattling off a 3-0 run. Ray got the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 21:30 mark before the Fighting Scots ripped off yet another run of four goals to take a 7-1 lead. Consecutive wins on the draw control helped BW down the field for back-to-back scores from Martineau and Ray and began to jump start the offense. The Yellow Jackets closed out the half on a 4-1 run, including a pair of goals from Martineau, as Wooster held an 8-5 lead heading into the locker room.

BW continued its scoring blitz with two quick goals from Jaekle and Ray, both coming in the first minute of the second half. A comeback in sight, Albrechta netted two separate game-tying goals, the first coming at 8-8 and then again at 9-9 with 24:35 left on the clock. Ray then found with Martineau to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game, 10-9; however, Wooster tied the game at 10-10 just over two minutes later. BW built up to a 13-10 advantage in part due to two Ray goals off two Albrechta assists but the Fighting Scots fought back with three unanswered goals for a 13-13 tie. After scoring two game-tying goals, Albrechta took her shot at the game winner and found the back of the net to put BW back up 14-13 with 7:24 remaining. The one-goal lead looked like it would stand up until Wooster tied the game for the fourth time at 14-14 with 19.5 seconds left, forcing the Yellow Jackets' first overtime game since the 2017 season.

The Fighting Scots had most of the scoring opportunities during the extra period. One free-position shot went wide of the net while Hildreth made an additional save before Boersma netted the golden goal for the victory.

BW begins OAC action on the road on Saturday, March 23, against Capital University at 1 p.m. inside Bernlohr Stadium.
