AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Junior defender Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as five Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse players landed on the All-OAC team.
Stein, junior attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) and senior midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) were each tabbed to the first team. Both senior attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) and sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) received an honorable mention selection.
Stein earns her first Defensive Player of the Year award and third straight All-OAC selection after making the switch from midfielder to defender this season. In her new position, she led the team, finished third in the OAC and broke a single-season school record with a career-best 94 draw controls. Additionally, Stein tied for third in the conference with her team-leading and career-high 40 caused turnovers and also grabbed a career-best 54 ground balls, second on the team and sixth in the OAC. The junior wrote her name on one other school record in 2019 when she tied the previous single-game mark of eight caused turnovers against the University of Mount Union. For her career, Stein has appeared in 45 games with 44 starts and has recorded 38 goals, nine assists, 47 points, 95 ground balls, 177 draw controls and 71 caused turnovers. She currently ranks second all-time in draw controls, fourth in caused turnovers and seventh in ground balls.
Martineau returns to the All-OAC team after she earned an honorable mention selection as a freshman. She led BW in scoring offense with career highs of 43 goals and 65 points and finished second on the squad with a career-best 22 assists. Martineau also tallied career marks of 50 draw controls and 25 ground balls to put her second and fifth on the team, respectively. This season, the junior became the seventh BW women's lacrosse player to record 100 career points with her nine-point performance against Muskingum University. In her career, Martineau has appeared in 38 games with 28 starts and has tallied 82 goals, 30 assists, 112 points, 52 ground balls, 52 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. She also ranks among the program's all-time leaders as she sits fifth in career assists, sixth in career goals, seventh in career points and tied for seventh in career draw controls.
Patrick garners her third consecutive All-OAC selection and lands on the first team for the second time in her career. She was a key contributor to the Yellow Jacket offense in her final collegiate season, recording career bests of 36 goals and 41 points for third and fourth on the team, respectively. On the defensive side, Patrick led the squad and was fourth in the OAC with a career-high 57 ground balls, second on the team with 22 caused turnovers and third with 40 draw controls. This season, she became the sixth women's lacrosse player to amass 100 career points and only the fourth to score 100 career goals. For her career, Patrick appeared in 65 games with 64 starts and tallied 111 goals, 21 assists, 132 points, 197 ground balls, 148 draw controls and 83 caused turnovers. In program history, she will graduate second in ground balls, third in draw controls, third in caused turnovers, fourth in goals, fifth in points and tied for ninth in assists.
Albrechta receives her fourth straight All-OAC honor as she was a key figure in the BW offense. The senior dished out a career-best 30 assists to lead the team and finish fifth in the OAC. Additionally, Albrechta chipped in 26 goals and 56 points which put her fourth and second on the squad, respectively. She put in the work on the defensive side as well, tallying career bests of 30 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. The senior netted her 100th career goal early in the season against Kenyon College to become the third Yellow Jacket to hit that milestone. For her career, Albrechta appeared in 64 games with 50 starts and recorded 120 goals, 73 assists, 193 points, 93 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 42 caused turnovers. She will also graduate among the program leaders – third in career goals, assists and points and eighth in both career ground balls and career caused turnovers.
Hildreth made her presence known in between the pipes en route to her first career All-OAC accolade. The sophomore started every single game in net this season, winning a career-best nine games. She finished third in the OAC with a career-high and school-record 155 saves and also notched the fourth-best save percentage in the conference at 46.3 percent. In addition to her single-season school record, Hildreth tied her previous single-game saves record with 18 stops against Kenyon College and also broke the career saves record against Muskingum University. She recorded the first two shutouts of her career in 2019 – just the second and third ever clean sheets in the history of BW women's lacrosse. In her two years on the team, Hildreth owns 14 victories, 283 saves, a 12.87 goals-against average and a 41.8 save percentage.
BW finished the 2019 campaign with a 9-7 record and a mark of 6-2 in the OAC, advancing to the conference tournament for the sixth consecutive season.
