BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team had a well-balanced attack in a 15-9 non-conference victory over Oberlin College on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.
Each BW (2-0) player scored multiple times on the night, led by sophomore midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron Revere) with her career-high five goals. Senior three-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) and junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) each added three goals in addition to three and two assists, respectively. Senior two-time All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) and junior midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) both chipped in two scores apiece.
In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) registered six saves to pick up her second win of the season.
Senior midfielder Hayley Drapkin posted a team-high three goals and one assist for four points in the loss for Oberlin (0-1). Sophomore attack Ali Wessel and junior midfielder Eliza Amber rounded out the multiple scorers with two goals each.
Martineau got the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard in just the first minute of action Patrick followed suit less than two minutes later for an early 2-0 lead. After the Yeowomen netted their first goal of the night, each team then proceeded to trade a pair of goals to a 4-3 BW lead with 12:02 remaining in the first half. Ray, Martineau and Jaekle had the Yellow Jackets cruising into halftime but Oberlin notched a man-up goal at the 2:21 mark for an 8-5 BW lead heading into the locker room.
The second half opened much the way the first half closed with three Yellow Jacket goals, including Albrechta's first two scores of the season, to build up to an 11-5 lead with 19:14 left on the clock. The Yeowomen worked quickly to cut into the deficit, scoring three of the game's next four goals in a 2:32 span, and only trailed 12-8. However, BW worked the clock and added three more goals across seven minutes of action, finishing off a well-rounded offensive night. Oberlin netted its final goal with 1:21 for the 15-9 final score.
BW will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, March 2, against Kenyon College at 12 p.m. on McBride Field.
