Women’s Lacrosse Loses First OAC Game to Capital

Berea, Ohio- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse fell to Capital University by a final score of 18-3 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW was led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland), junior All-OAC attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) and junior All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) with one goal a piece. Senior defender Lauryn Wright (Orrville) caused a game-high and career-best five turnovers.

Senior midfielder Kara Hines led the way for Capital with a game-high five goals. Sophomore midfielder Kathryn Walton tallied three goals and four other Crusaders netted two goals.

In the first half, BW was unable to get anything going offensively, completing only six out of their 12 clear attempts. The first successful clear attempt for BW was made at the 11:48 mark by Patrick. The Jackets got on the board after a free-position shot from Stein found the back of the cage with 26:29 remaining in the half. BW went scoreless for next 25:57 minutes. In that time frame, the Crusaders were able to score eight goals to give them a 10-1 lead. The last goal of the half was scored by Albrechta with 32 seconds before the half ended, making the score 10-2.

Capital added eight goals to their halftime lead in the second half. BW's lone goal in the period came off a free-position shot from Patrick at the 11:07 mark, her 26th goal on the season.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 as they host John Carroll University in an OAC matchup inside the George Finnie Stadium. The women's lacrosse team will be honoring Yeardley Love, who was a women's lacrosse player at the University of Virginia, who passed away from a domestic violence incident. The team has been raising money for her foundation, One Love. The first 50 fans with a minimum $10 donation will receive a "One Love" t-shirt.
