Women’s Lacrosse Doubles Up Methodist (N.C.) in Spring Fling Opener

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team opened the annual Spring Fling as it doubled up Methodist (N.C.) University by a final score of 14-7 at the Fran Ross Park.  

BW (4-0) was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) as she scored a game-high four goals and added an assist for a game-high five points.  Sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Moran (Carlisle, Pa.) and freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) each scored a career-high tying two goals. 

Methodist (4-3) was led by Kaelyn Holland with three goals and Lindsay Brennan with two scores.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets took an early 2-1 lead when senior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored the unassisted goal at the 18:35 mark.  The Monarchs responded with a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead when Bianca Terenzi found the back of the cage at 5:11. BW closed out the half on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the locker on goals by Martineau, junior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.}) and Russell with the last coming with 2:08 remaining

Both teams scored a goal to open the second half before the Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 run to take a 14-6 lead on a goal by sophomore attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) at the 3:33 mark.  Methodist closed out the scoring when Monti Hendrix scored with 1:10 left.

BW senior netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 13 shots and allowed seven goals with six saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, March 9 when they close out the Spring Fling with a game against Kean (N.J.) University at the Ann Dever Memorial Park in Englewood, Florida at 5 p.m.
