WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 15-3 victory against Wilmington College in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.
BW (4-3, 1-0 OAC), who has won three of its last four games, won its OAC opener for the second straight season. Wilmington (2-8, 0-1) has now lost four straight as well as two straight OAC openers.
The Yellow Jackets were led by junior attack Emma Harding (Akron/Revere) and freshman attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) each with three goals. Senior attack Victoria Budzyn (East Amherst, N.Y.), senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Amherst, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Cara Wood (Shaker Heights/Laurel) all added two goals. Wood also had an assist.
In the first half, BW scored 11 unanswered goals before the Quakers scored their only goal at the 1:26 mark. The Yellow Jackets got two goals each from Bodkin, Harding, Wheeler and Wood in the opening period.
In the second half, Wilmington scored 1:17 into the final stanza to cut the lead down to 11-2 on a free position goal by Kiki Hall. The two teams each scored a goal each to make the score 12-3. BW scored the final three goals of the game from Harding, Budzyn and Wheeler with the last coming from Wheeler at the 3:14 mark.
In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced seven shots, including six on goal and allowed three goals with three saves. Getto improved to 4-3 on the season.
BW held a 35-7 advantage in shot, including 24-6 edge in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also had the advantage in draw controls (14-6) and caused turnovers (17-6) but came up short in ground balls by a count of 28-23.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 8 when it hosts defending OAC Champion the University of Mount Union on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
