BW Women’s Lacrosse Drops Overtime Thriller to Cross-Town Rival John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-13 Ohio Athletic Conference overtime thriller against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium.

BW (4-5, 1-2 OAC) was led by junior attack Emma Harding (Akron/Revere) with a career-high four goals. Sophomore All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) added three goals and freshman attack Caitlin Wheeler(River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) tallied two.

John Carroll (9-2, 3-0 OAC) was led by Chelsea Jackson with a game-high five goals.  

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the goal by Harding off the assist from Russell at the 24:18 mark.   The Blue Streaks responded with two goals to cut the lead down to 4-2 on the goal by DiMillo at 21:54.   After another score by Harding, John Carroll scored three unanswered goals to cut the lead down to 5-4 on the goal from Annamae Bolen at the 19:07 mark.   BW pushed the lead to 7-5 on the third goal of the opening stanza by Harding off the assist from sophomore All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) at 7:37.  The Blue Streaks scored the final three goals of the half to lead 8-7 at the intermission.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with two goals from Russell to take a 9-8 lead at 25:04.   The game was tied three more times with the last coming at 11-11 with 9:11 left in the regulation.

John Carroll took the 12-11 lead and scored the first goal of the extra period on the free position goal by Curatolo at the 4:35 mark.  BW knotted the game back up at 12-12 on the unassisted goal by sophomore attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) at 2:18.  The Blue Streaks won the game on the man-up and free position goal by Jackson at the 1:41 mark.  John Carroll added two more insurance goals before senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Amherst, N.Y.) scored the game's final goal with three seconds left.

In goal for BW, sophomore netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 27 total shots, including 20 on goal, allowed 15 goals and made five saves.

The Blue Streaks outshot the Yellow Jackets, 27-25, including a 20-18 advantage in shots on goal. JCU had a 23-21 lead in ground balls and led 21-10 in draw controls.

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 19 when hosts an OAC game against Otterbein University on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
