Russell Named OAC Women’s Lacrosse Defender of the Year, Two Others Tabbed as All-OAC

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) was named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Year to headline three Yellow Jackets on the All-OAC team.

Russell and sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Getto (Medina) were named to the first-team while sophomore midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) was selected to the second-team.

Russell
, who was a first-team selection last season, led the team in goals with 29, points with 46, ground balls with 52, draw controls with 50 and caused turnovers with 48.   She was second on the team in assists with 17.   Russell was fourth in NCAA Division III with 3.43 caused turnovers per game.

For her career, Russell has appeared in 32 career games.  She is the school record holder in goals with 84, points with 125, ground balls with 148 and draw controls with 90 and is second in assists with 41.

Getto
earns her first career All-OAC accolade in her first season between the pipes.  She led the OAC in saves with 123, which were a BW single season record as well as the career saves record.  Getto is also the school record holder for save percentage in a season at 48 percent.  She logged 854 of a total 884 minutes and allowed 133 goals. Getto had a record of 8-6.  

Kocher, who was a first-team selection a year ago, led the team and was tied for first in the OAC with 31 assists.   She added 12 goals for a total of 43 points to rank second on the team.  Kocher also tallied 25 grounds balls, 24 draw controls and forced 24 turnovers.

For her career, Kocher has appeared in 31 games.  She is the school record holder for assists in a game with seven, in a season with 49 and in a career with 80.   Kocher also is second all-time in career points with 102, fourth in career draw controls with 55 and fifth in ground balls with 83.

BW finished the season with a record of 8-6 overall and 4-2 in OAC play.   The Yellow Jackets advanced to their second straight OAC Tournament championship game.
