BEREA, Ohio -- The 2014 Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team earned the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Team Award. The award honors collegiate women's lacrosse teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.00 scale.
The Yellow Jackets posted a 3.286 team grade point average last season.
In addition, seniors Ellen Fedick (Rochester, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy), Becky Russell (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shaler Area) and Bridget Walsh (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) have been named to the Division III IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. This award is given to a student-athelete for having a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater after achieving at least junior status academically.
Fedick, who is a pre-physical therapy major, earned a 3.98 grade point average, which was among the highest of all student-athletes at the University in 2013-2014. She was also named a Jacket Scholar for her efforts in the classroom. After graduation, Ellen is pursuing a degree in the physicians assistant program at Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.). In her career, Ellen appeared in 26 games, scored 11 goals and tallied four assists.
Russell, who is also a pre-physical therapy major, earned a 3.94 grade point average. She was also named a Jacket Scholar for the second year in a row. After graduation, Becky is pursuing a degree in the physical therapy graduate program at the University of Pittsburgh. In her career. Becky appeared in 25 games, scored 11 goals and recorded seven assists.
Walsh, who is a business administration/ human resources major, earned a 3.504 grade point average. In her career, Bridget started all but three games in goal for the Yellow Jackets. In those two seasons, she had an overall record of 15-9 while recording 126 saves.
This season, BW posted a record of 14-4 overall and 3-1 in the OAC and advanced to the first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Championship game. The Yellow Jackets set the school-record for victories in a season with 14 and for consecutive wins with 10. In addition, the team led the nation in caused turnovers per game (17.8) for Division III. After two seasons, BW has compiled an 18-10 record.
