No. 15 Women’s Basketball Knocks Off Ohio Northern in Home Victory

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 15 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team hosted Ohio Northern University in an OAC contest in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. The Yellow Jackets took down the Polar Bears 58-41 to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Yellow Jackets (10-2, 7-0 OAC) led the Polar Bears (9-4, 3-3 OAC) shooting 20-57 as a team from the floor and drilled eight shots from downtown. Leading BW was senior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) as she went 4-4 from three-point range and totaled 15 points and three rebounds. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) also posted 15 points and added seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

It was a close 30-26 BW lead after 20 minutes of play. Coming out of the locker room at half, the Yellow Jackets held the Polar Bears scoreless for about four minutes, with ONU notching just one free throw. BW didn't allow an ONU basket until the 1:50 mark in the third.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets held themselves to just one turnover the first 18 minutes of the second half, tallying three in the last two minutes of action. BW shot 6-15 (40%) from the floor in the third and went 4-6 from deep with a game total of 33.3% from three-point range. The Yellow Jackets grabbed the edge in rebounding (36-32) and assists (12-2). BW also forced 17 Polar Bear turnovers in tonight's matchup.

ONU was led by junior All-OAC guard Brynn Serbin, senior guard Jaidyn Hale, and senior center Alissa Stahler who each tallied six points.

Freshman guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Watkins Memorial) and sophomore forward Kira Philpot (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow) finished with five points for BW. Philpot also added four boards. Freshman forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) dished out three assists while also tallying five points. Senior Academic All-OAC forward Megan Scheibelhut (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) posted seven rebounds and a career-high in blocks, tallying five.

The Yellow Jackets return to play this Saturday, January 12 as they travel to Bexley, Ohio to face Capital University to play in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader to round out the first half of OAC play. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Performance Arena inside The Capital Center.
