No. 21 Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 1 Hope (Mich.) on Day 2 of Hope Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. – The #21 Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team took on #1 Hope (Mich.) College on Day 2 of the Hope Tournament inside the DeVos Fieldhouse.

Despite losing to the Flying Dutchman (4-0) 83-55, the Yellow Jackets (2-1) had two players land on the All-Tournament team, senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) and senior Academic All-OAC guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky).

Edwards totaled a game-high 18 points. She also notched seven rebounds for BW. Edwards' also had a double-double performance in the first game of the tournament yesterday, tallying 10 points and 15 rebounds. Hensel notched seven points and five rebounds today to accompany her 11 points and four rebounds from yesterday.

In today's matchup, Hope got out to a hot 12-2 start to force and early BW timeout. The Yellow Jackets narrowed down the lead to just six heading into the second quarter (16-10). The second quarter was back-and-forth, as the Flying Dutchmen outscored BW by just a slim 19-13 margin heading into the locker room at half.

Cracking open the lead in the third quarter, Hope was able to outscore the Yellow Jackets 28-16, sinking four three-pointers and shooting 55.6% as a team. It was another strong defensive effort by BW in the fourth but the Yellow Jackets were unable to close in on the Flying Dutchmen, falling by an 83-55 final score.

Hope was led by junior Claire Baguley who posted 15 points and four rebounds. Senior Kenedy Schoonveld and senior Sydney Muller each added 11 points for the Flying Dutchmen.

Sophomore forward Kira Philpot (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow) was the second-leading scorer for the Yellow Jackets in today's contest, nearing a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Junior Academic All-OAC guard Izzy Andrews (Ann Arbor, Mich./Rudolf Steiner School) and senior Academic All-OAC guard Sydney Snyder (Kirtland) each tallied six points. Andrews added three assists and a rebound. 

BW returns to play next Tuesday (November 23) as the Yellow Jackets host La Roche (Pa.) University for the 2021-22 home opener and the first game of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
