Women’s Basketball Wins Season Series With Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team swept the season series against Otterbein University as it posted a 68-58 Ohio Athletic Conference victory in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW (17-4, 10-4 OAC) had two players score in double figured led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) as she scored 12 points.  Sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) added 11 points.

Otterbein (9-12, 5-9 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by junior forward Kiersten Taylor, who is this week's OAC Player of the Week, as she scored a game-high 17 points. Sophomore All-OAC guard Dani Kissel tallied 16 points while sophomore guard Ali Cartnal contributed 10 points.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 10-3 run when senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) scored on a layup at the 6:27 mark.   The Cardinals responded with an 11-4 run to tie the game at 14-14 when freshman guard Delaney Cutteridge hit a jump shot with 28 seconds remaining.

Otterbein opened the second period on a 6-4 run to take the 20-18 lead on a layup by Cartnal at the 7:48 mark.  BW responded with a 7-0 run to take a 25-20 advantage on a pair of free throws by sophomore guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) at 5:20. The Cardinals closed out the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 29-27 lead into the locker room. 

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 13-6 run to take a 40-35 lead on a layup by Lemmon at the 5:06 mark.  Otterbein closed out the third quarter on a 13-5 run to take a 48-45 lead into the final stanza.  

BW opened the final quarter on a 7-4 run to tie the game at 52-52 when Fecht knocked down a three-pointer from the corner at the 7:10 mark.  The Yellow Jackets closed the game on a 16-6 run to secure the win. 

BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC showdown with cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:30 p.m.   The next home game is on Saturday, February 11 when the team hosts an OAC game against Capital University in the Ursprung Gym at 3 p.m.
