Women’s Basketball Stays Perfect with OAC Victory at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio –THE Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team concluded its six-game road swing and remained undefeated on the season with a 51-40 Ohio Athletic Conference victory against Capital University in the Capital Center. 

BW (7-0, 4-0 OAC), who is off to its best start since the 2010-11 when it started 7-1, was led by freshman guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Catholic) as she scored a team-high 10 points.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) chipped in eight points 

Capital (3-5, 0-4 OAC) was led by guard Emily Ondo with a game-high 16 points.

The Crusaders opened the game on a 6-0 when Ondo knocked down a jumper at the 8:02 mark.  The Yellow Jackets answered with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 8-6 on a jumper by freshman guard Tiffany Bentler (North Canton/Hoover) at 5:35. BW outscored Capital 3-2 over the remainder of the first quarter but trailed 10-9 after the opening period. 

In the second stanza, the Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the game at 12-10 when junior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) buried a three-pointer at 9:35.  The Crusaders closed the first half on a 7-4 run as they took the lead into the locker room at halftime.

Capital opened up the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 23-16 advantage on layup by Elli Wachtman at the 7:58 mark.  BW responded with a 10-2 run to take a 26-25 lead the traditonal three-point play by Schill at 5:14. The Crusaders fought back to cut the lead down to 31-30 on a pair of free throws from Regan Stonerock at 1:36.  The Yellow Jackets scored four of the last six points in the quarter and led 35-32 after three periods of play. 

BW opened the fourth and final quarter on a 10-3 run to push its lead to 45-35 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) at the 2:26 mark.  The Yellow Jackets outscore Capital down the stretch by a margin of 6-5 and got the final points of the game when junior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) hit a pair from the charity stripe.
