Softball Drops OAC Doubleheader to Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Rike Field.

Otterbein (20-6, 7-3 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 1-0 in 11 innings, which was the longest game of the season for BW (12-16, 7-5 OAC) and the longest since it won a 9-4 game in 14 innings at Wilmington College on April 29, 2010.  The Cardinals took the nightcap by a final score of 3-0.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on four hits. Otterbein scored one runs on five hits as it pushed its lone across the plate in the bottom of the 11th inning. 

At the Plate

  • Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base
  • Senior Academic All-OAC designated hitter Amanda Crisler (Lorain/Amherst) and freshman first baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) each added a base knock

In the Circle

  • Junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week, took the loss as she allowed one run on five hits with a career-high 19 strikeouts and three walks in a career-best 10.2 innings pitched

In game two, BW was held scoreless for the third time this season on four hits. The Cardinals scored three runs on eight hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the third inning and one run in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) was 2 -for-3 with a double
  • Freshman left fielder Kenzie Morsillo (Middleburg Heights/Padua Franciscan) and Mau each were 1-for-3
  • Sophomore centerfielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) had a walk

In the Circle

  • Junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 2.2 innings pitched
  • Freshman right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 3.1 innings. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Ada for an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field at 3 p.m.  BW returns home on Saturday, April 23 when it hosts an OAC and Seniors' Day doubleheader against the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m.
