Softball Drops Season Finale to Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team ended its 2022 season by dropping an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Marietta College on Marietta Field.

Marietta (18-20, 8-10 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 9-4 and took the nightcap by a final score of 17-2 in five innings.

In game one, BW (13-23, 7-11 OAC) scored two runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the first and the second innings and two in the seventh. The Pioneers scored nine runs on 10 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the fourth and fifth innings and seven in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman) was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, run batted-in (RBI) and stolen base
  • Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, walk and a stolen base
  • Senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Amanda Crisler (Lorain/Amherst) and sophomore third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon) each had a base knock
  • Gersey had an RBI and a stolen base

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and six walks in 5.1 innings pitched.
  • Freshman righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) did not allow a run on two hits with one walk

In game two, the Yellow Jackers scored two runs on five hits as they plated one run in the third and fifth innings. Marietta scored 17 runs on 18 hits as it pushed 10 runs across the plate in the first inning, four in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.

At the Plate

  • Freshman third baseman Sarah Griffin (Medina) was 2-for-2 with a run scored.  The two hits were the first of Griffin's career
  • Freshman first baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) was 1-for-2 with a double, RBI and walk
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) was 1-for-3 with a run scored
  • Saxton was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk

In the Circle

  • Freshman right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed 12 runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and three walks in one inning.
  • Welty allowed five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts
