Softball Drops Road Non-Conference Doubleheader to Geneva (Pa.)

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team, who saw its first action since its spring break trip to Arizona, fell to Geneva (Pa.) College a non-conference doubleheader on the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball Field at the Merriman Athletic Complex.

Geneva (8-4) won the first game by a final score of 4-1 and took the nightcap by a final score of 8-0 in six innings.

In the opener, BW (1-11) scored one run on eight hits as it plated its lone run in the second inning.  The Golden Tornadoes scored four runs on four hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the third inning and three in the sixth. 

At the Plate:

  • Sophomore center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) went 2-for-3
  • Junior first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor), junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman), sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), sophomore third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon), freshman left fielder Kenzie Morsillo (Middleburg Heights/Padua Franciscan) and freshman right fielder Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) all had a base knock
  • Thompson and Frederickson each had a double
  • Morsillo had a run batted-in
  • Gersey scored the lone run 

In the Circle:

  • Junior right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) took the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and eight walks in six innings. 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless for the first time on the season and had just three hits.  Geneva scored eight runs on 11 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the third and fourth innings and three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

At the Plate:

  • Frederickson, Mau and Morsillo each had a hit
  • Senior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Macedonia/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and Gersey each had a base on balls.

In the Circle:

  • Junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings
  • Freshman right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 26 when it begins OAC play with a conference doubleheader in the home opener against Wilmington College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.  First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two slated to begin at 3 p.m.
