Softball Splits OAC Doubleheader with Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wilmington College inside the Wilmington Softball Complex.

BW (5-3, 3-3 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 7-0.   Wilmington (5-5, 4-2) won the nightcap by a final score of 9-4.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on 12 hits as it plated two runs in the first one in the second, three in the third and one in the seventh.   Wilmington was held scoreless for the first time this season on just two hits.

The BW offense was led senior All-OAC centerfielder Macy Leach (Westerville/North) as she went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs).   Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) was 3-for-5 with a double, runs scored and one RBI.  Six other Yellow Jackets had a base knock highlighted by the first career double for sophomore shortstop Alicia Saxton (Boardman).

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, dominated the Quakers as she pitched six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.  Sophomore righty Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) pitched a scoreless and hitless seventh inning.

In game two, BW scored four runs on 12 hits as it plated two runs in the first and fourth.   Wilmington scored nine runs on 13 hits as it pushed six runs across the plate in the first and three in the fourth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) as she went 3-for-3 with a run scored.  Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Kami Miracle was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Junior All-OAC right fielder Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.  Freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

In the circle, junior Hannah Welling (Ravenna) started the game and did not record an out before leaving the game.  Uhlenberg came on in relief and pitched six innings and allowed nine runs (five earned) on 13 hits with one strikeout and one walk.

BW is back in action on Sunday, March 21 when it hosts the final two games of the home-and-home OAC series with Wilmington on the BW Softball Field at 1 p.m.
