Softball Walks Off Season Opening Victory Against John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – Freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) had her first collegiate walk-off run batted-in (RBI) single as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened the 2021 season with a five-inning run rule victory over John Carroll University in a rescheduled game by a final score of 10-2 on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (1-0), who was originally scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, scored 10 runs on nine hits and it plated seven runs in the first, one in the third and two in the fifth with two outs.  John Carroll (0-1) scored two runs on three hits as it plated both runs in the first inning.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Bricker as she went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored.   Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and scored the game winning run.   Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 9 when it plays John Carroll in another rescheduled seven inning game on the BW Softball Field at 4:30 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets open up OAC action on Saturday, March 13 when it hosts a doubleheader against Muskingum University at 1 p.m.
