Softball Sweeps Capital on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' Day doubleheader over Capital University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex

Prior to the doubleheader, BW (21-11, 19-11 OAC) honored its four senior players in All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon), All-OAC center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) and Academic All-OAC third baseman Kami Miracle (Uniontown/Green).

The Yellow Jackets won the first game by a final score of 2-0.   BW completed the sweep as it took the second game by a final score of 4-3.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on five hits as they plated one run in the third and fifth innings.  Capital (10-20, 10-20 OAC) was held hitless and scoreless

BW was led at the plate by freshman shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  Sophomore designated player Raegan Thompson (Mentor) was 1-for-2 with a double and a run batted-in (RBI).

Junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) had career-day in the circle as she recorded her third career no-hitter with a career-best 19 strikeouts and two walks to earn her 13th win of the season.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored four runs on three hits as they plated two runs in the first and two in the sixth. The Crusaders scored three runs on six hits as they pushed all three runs across the plate in the fourth.

BW was led offensively by freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.   Freshman center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) had the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) won her seventh game as she allowed three unearned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in six innings.   Camarati recorded her third save of the season as she allowed one hit with one strikeout in the seventh inning.

The Yellow Jackets closeout the weekend series with Capital on Sunday, May 2 when it travels to Bexley for an OAC doubleheader on Clowson Field at 1 p.m.
