Softball Picked Second in Inaugural OAC Coaches Preseason Poll

BEREA, Ohio – In the first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Coaches Preseason Poll, the Baldwin Wallace University softball team has been picked to finish second.

BW was selected second with 74 points and four first place votes.  Defending 2019 OAC Regular Season Champion Muskingum University was picked first with 75 points and five first place votes.  Otterbein University, who was the 2019 OAC Tournament Champions, was third with 62 points and one first place vote.  Ohio Northern University was selected fourth with 60 points.  Rounding out the top five was the University of Mount Union with 47 points.

"We respect that the coaches in the OAC have seen the growth in our softball,"  stated Head Coach Tom Spencer.  "Being ranked second in the first-ever poll is an honor but now we have to go out and prove it on the field."

In 2019, the Yellow Jackets set a school-record for wins in a season with 33. BW posted an overall record of  33-10 record and advanced to the OAC Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Spencer, who is in his 16th season, returns 13 letterwinners, four position starters, three All-Ohio Athletic Conference players, two starting pitchers and the starting designated player.  Spencer also welcomes six new faces that will push for playing time. 

The Yellow Jackets open the 2019 season when they travel to Tucson, Arizona for the annual Tucson Invitational Games on March 9-13.  BW will face the defending NCAA Division III champions as well as two other national ranked teams during its spring break trip.  The Yellow Jackets open OAC action Saturday, March 21 when they travel to Wilmington to take on Wilmington College.   BW plays its first home game on Monday, March 23 when it hosts a non-conference doubleheader against Hiram College.
